I imagine most people wonder why I would ever need a website. I think the main argument for one is self-expression. To a degree, everyone wants to express their thoughts and be heard. And for me, my thoughts aren't best shared with my friends through instagram posts or memes. I'll refrain from calling this a “higher” form of expression. That seems a little reductive. I just have thoughts and feelings that can require many forms of media to represent. So this will serve as a manifesto. If I were a CEO of a mid-cap corporation that used an Alegria art-style to inclusively connect to users I would call this a mission statement. But I think the word manifesto has more weight to it and, honestly, is more apt to describe this.
I think that myspace was the ultimate social media platform. Through myspace users basically made their own websites. I believe it was highly customizable. The layout and UI and colors were at the discretion of the user. The customizability made each persons page unique and a more vivid reflection of their character. I believe it took away lots of the coding of making a personal website and left users with the best parts of it, expression to a high degree. However, Myspace also has this feature, where you can look up pages of others near a certain zip-code. The genius of this is overlooked. Mark Zuckerberg claimed that his goal was to create a social network that facilitated connection, but I believe his major flaw was half-acknowledging that real connection happens in person. Perhaps he believed that people would see each other in person naturally, and that Facebook would just serve as an auxiliary to that. A way to see what's happening with your friends outside of your interactions. However, social media has evolved. Now to the point where I sometimes find more out about my friends through social media than in person. It's almost as if the roles of each space have flipped and now social media is used as a way to enter people's lives. Indeed, I think that's a good thing, social media ***should*** serve as a way to meet new people and enter others lives. But the fundamental error here now lies in the way you make friends on social media, on instagram and Facebook, the two primary sites, you can really only find friends through friends. Or else you can find them randomly, but it's often either fruitless or just simply weird. That's where the genius of having a zip code search function lies. With the zip code search, when you move to a new city or are staying in a strange town or simply want to meet more people that ACTUALLY live nearby and are open to connect, you can simply look them up by zip code. And the best part is that when you look them up you see their page, which, if they've put effort and time into it, should be a brilliant reflection of their character. This all is to say that I believe the next evolution for social media is actual friend-facilitation. We should move “backwards” to a platform that does not expect real world interaction but rather allows us to facilitate it. This would help the new kid at a new school and the young man or woman moving to a new city alone who is interested in making true friends and would like to understand the actual psychology of others before reaching out.
My opinion on AI has developed over the past few months substantially. At its inception, I was of the opinion that AI was for weak-minded people that preferred to externalize the necessity of thinking. I believed it would make your mind weaker and cited an MIT study on neural activity while using Chat GPT as proof. It wasn’t until AI was required in a linear algebra class assignment that I even considered it as something I would use. And my conversion required the further proof of my friend and roommate Tommy using it to make hilarious OPORDs for “missions” like operation “Phantom Ascent” Where we ran from USAFA to pikes peak starting at 0230 and stopping at Waffle House around 0430. That along with seeing how incredibly fast and easy codex made my friend Rushil’s development of an AI translation software convinced me of its utility. I understood that AI could be leveraged towards ultimate human expression. Coding was, and is, a language and like all languages, it is simply a medium to express thoughts. It’s a way to discover and create programs that represent something greater. Coding is a unique language in that its semantic ability is not only in representing thoughts but also finding answers to question. I believe it may be the only kind of language where if you formulate a question correctly, you will be directly rewarded with an answer. Not as a result of some outside source’s information but rather as a consequence of the question itself. Anyways that was a bit of a tangent. My point is that AI has now made coding, what may be the most capable form of human expression we have today, more accessible to all and unbelievably quick. If there was to be a revival of myspace, under a new name (maybe I could call it, “My world” or, “Little World”), it could be facilitated through AI and allow anyone to create amazing websites with heretofore unseen levels of celerity and alacrity.
The last thing I want to say is concerning judgement, self-consciousness, insecurity, and the ilk. I think when creating something it’s always better to avoid thoughts of what others would think. But, I should say, I imagine there are some people who come to this website and see it as, “extra”. Like I’m putting in effort and time to perhaps try and seem better than others or something like that. But after just a few seconds of thought I think most people would come to agree that the thoughts that person have are really just a reflection of their own insecurity. What they really feel when they are mad about my website being made is a feeling that they aren’t doing enough. Obviously that is all ridiculous but my final point that I’d like about this website is concerning that idea. There’s always a little fear when doing something without guidance and especially when trying to express yourself openly. I’d like to state as a cornerstone of this website a disregard for those feelings. The point of this website is to share what I believe about the world and how I feel. To share photos and articles concerning things I’ve experienced. Obviously I’m going to open myself up to criticism with this act. When I write about Gnosticism, Aleister Crowley, my view of God, and especially when I release songs inspired by real emotions– I definitely make myself vulnerable to judgement and criticism. It is my wish that you don’t judge me simply from the words I show on this site or the songs I share. Rather, remember that these thoughts come from a real person and aren’t perfect.
My name is Rome Bowman. I'm interested in building things that last — ideas, music, discipline, and a life that feels solid under my feet. I'm currently a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy, where I study, train, and compete while pursuing interests that extend beyond the classroom. I've always been drawn to questions about consciousness, meaning, creativity, and human potential — not just abstractly, but in how they show up in daily life through work, relationships, and self-mastery. This site is a record of that pursuit. Here you'll find essays on topics I think about deeply, music I've written and produced, photos and projects that matter to me, and occasional reflections on training, discipline, and growth. I'm less interested in projecting an image than in documenting real progress — the kind that comes from showing up consistently and learning through experience. I care about craft. I believe in finishing things. I value physical and mental resilience, honest self-assessment, and building competence over time. I'm not trying to chase trends or optimize for attention; I'm focused on developing skills, expressing ideas clearly, and creating work I can stand behind years from now. If there's a common thread here, it's this: I'm committed to becoming capable — creatively, intellectually, and physically — and to sharing what I learn along the way. This site is part archive, part workshop, and part signal to myself of the standard I'm holding. Thanks for stopping by.
